How To Book a Car for Your Road Test
Method 1: Red Blocks
- Go to the Premium Northside/St-Albert Calendar and look for red time blocks/spots. FIGURE 1
Red spots mean that there’s a car available. Only our office staff can book it on your behalf.
- Read the text in the spot and follow the directions for the test start time. Ex: Test Start time must be between 9AM and 10:30AM only. [Could select a RT start time of 9:00, 9:15, 9:30, 9:45, 10:00, 10:15, 10:30] Go to the website of your preferred registry, if not sure read our blog about recommended registries, and find a registry spot where the start time falls within what the red block indicates. *Remember, a 9:00 road test start time would mean the warm-up time starts at 7:45, 8:00, or 8:15 depending on the registry opening time.
As per the instructions in the red box, the 9:30 or 10:15 road test would be the only appropriate test spots the registry has for that block. (See FIGURE 2) These would be your short-listed times.
- Contact our office and request to “hold the red road test block” for the date and times you short listed. We will hold the time for 4 hours only. To ensure that time is booked for you, you must send/forward the email confirmation the registry sends you (see 4).
- Book the test and IMMEDIATELY send the confirmation email from the registry to [email protected]. Also, please include if you have a car preference (Electric, or gas car by number) and tell us where you would like to be picked up or if you would rather meet at the registry. By meeting at the registry, we will spend more time practising in the test area rather than driving there. Once we get that email, we will book the car for you, and will change the red block into a blue spot with the road test details, and you will receive an email confirmation from our schedule system. So, if you booked the 9:30 test, your instructor would meet you for your warmup drive at 8:15, then drive for 45 minutes and be at the registry 30 minutes before the test for check-in as per the road test instructions.

Method 2: Booking your test during a lesson spot
For this method, you need to match the end time of the test with the end time of the lesson. So, let’s say that there is a lesson spot from 9-11am you could book a road test if it were scheduled from 10:15-11:00 on Fig 2.
If you have the credits available, you could book the lesson on the calendar as per normal. You still need to send us the confirmation email so that we can mark it as a road test (and adjust the price/credits discount accordingly, if you are a 10hour + student).
However, most likely you will not have the credits to book this directly, and you will need to follow the above procedure, starting at Step 3 by contacting our office to hold the spot for a maximum of 4 hours while you complete the booking at the registry.
If the time doesn’t exactly match, you can still book a test if the test end time is before the end of the lesson, by either 15 minutes or 30 minutes, however, in this case there will not be time for a warm-up, and you will need to meet at the Registry (also no time for pick up).
Please be aware that after your test, the instructor may not have enough time to drop you off, and you will have to make your own arrangements.
Remember, different registries have different policies about whether cancelling a road test booking with notice is fully refundable, or if it is just a credit (needs to be rebooked at that registry).
Please contact us with any questions about either of these methods before booking your test.
